Amazonite is an opaque gemstone that ranges from sea blue to light green, often with black matrix throughout. It is named for the Amazon River, but it is found in numerous countries, such as Russia, South Africa, Libya and even the United States.
It is formed from a variety of feldspar. It has a hardness rating of 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale. It is thought to be a stone of peace and harmony.
