Amber is made of fossilized pine tree resin. It is most often found in the Baltic region of northern Europe, and has been used as beads and in jewelry for centuries.
It has a wide range of colors, from yellow to orange to brown. Amber is a 2 - 2.5 on the Mohs hardness scale.
Amber differs from Copal in that it is found in nature; Copal is a man-made amber that is only 1.5 on the Mohs hardness scale.
