Garnet is the official birthstone for January, and is thought to help reduce stress and anxiety and signifies love and friendship.

Garnets are found all over the world, usually in sand dunes and sedimentary rock.

Garnet is usually a deep red color, though more expensive forms can present in peach, green and clear. Hessonite garnet is a deep brownish red color.

Garnets have a range of 6.5-7.5 on the Mohs hardness scale.
